Volunteering with FoRB

We run on volunteer power!  Please consider donating some of your time and talent during the next year.

Leopold Benches

John Heidy was the treasurer of the committee that established Carolew Park which  became Rock Bridge Memorial State Park.  As a memorial to his lifelong support of the state park, his family would like to place four more Aldo Leopold benches along the trails of the park.  Perhaps you have seen the benches located at the bend of the Sinkhole Trail and white connector of the Springbrook Trail. These were made by Tucker Griggs as an Eagle Scout project. Patterned after benches Leopold made to use at his Sand County Farm, these benches provide seating and also convert to a table with seat.

Volunteers are needed to help construct the benches. The treated lumber will need to be cut to prescribed lengths for a workday in May or June.  Tucker said it takes a group of volunteers about three hours to construct one table.  There will be work for skilled woodworkers and unskilled helpers.

Annual Meeting Picnic and Service Day

Our FoRB Annual Picnic on April 26th will be combined with a morning of service at the park.  Volunteers are needed to pick up trash along the highway, trails and parking lots. Other volunteers are needed to set up the picnic lunch following the clean up. Clean up crew meet at Gilbert Shelter at 9 am.  Picnic at 11:30 am at Gilbert Shelter.
